We re-discovered Biianco‘s soul-stirring chillwave track “Get Up” rather serendipitously while rummaging our March 2019 playlists because we only remembered a part of the emotive lyrics “You wanna watch me fall, You gonna watch me…..”.
When we eventually found it, little did we know that the expressive voice behind the track – Gabby Bianco was/is the new avatar of Gabrielle Wortman, the Los Angeles based, award-winning songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer; one half of fusion alternative pop band – Smoke Season and former lead singer of the indie electronic rock band Temp3st.
Metaphorically and rather literally, Get Up’s enigmatic and anthemic music video is quite reflective of Gabby Bianco’s progression as an artist and singer. The beautiful music video uses arcane imagery with symbolic suffering and rebirth reference to Inanna – Ishtar, the ancient Mesopotamian/Sumerian goddess of love, beauty, sex, desire, fertility, war, justice, and political power; most famous for her descent into and return from the Sumerian Underworld.
It’s also interesting to note that as an advocate for women rights, she not only wrote but also engineered and produced the entire EP, playing all instruments and worked only with female collaborators throughout its development. Even the mesmeric music video below was created using a 100% all-womxn crew.
Considering her amazing contribution to Smoke Season and Temp3st, we eagerly look forward to her next release. In the meantime, watch “Get Up” and share it to the world. Biannco has arrived.
Biannco – Get Up (Song Lyrics)
I’m the kind of soul with bullet holes on my sleeve
Honestly, I know it will ruin me,
but it’s more than I can see.
Hallelujah.
Got my fortune read for five dollars
She had a lot of words for saying I deserve
more than I receive.
You wanna watch me fall
You gonna watch me.
So watch me get up get up get up this time.
Got the kind of head that gets caught in my own dreams
Honestly, I commit.
I commit like it’s my ship and I’m sinking in the sea.
I once thought she had the answers —
Moved them like a dancer.
But where’s the music in the back of these streets?
I think I hear it.
Wanna watch me fall?
Gonna watch me.
So watch me.
Get up get up get up this time
Get up get up get up this time
Get up get up get up this time
Get up get up get up this time
You wanna watch me fall
You’re gonna watch me get up this time.
