The Guardian considers Amason, the Stockholm based, Swedish indie pop band a “Supergroup”. This claim is not entirely unfounded because all the band members of Amason have a rich musical background, and are stars in their own right.
In fact, this is how The Guardian’s Paul Lester described Amason in his “New Band of the Week” review in July 2015 when Amason released “Sky City“, their award-winning debut studio album. “When is a new band not a new band? Is it when one of its members has already co-written a hit single so technically perfect it should be studied at university? In fact, they’re a supergroup of sorts. Pontus Winnberg is a member of Miike Snow and the Avant half of songwriting/production duo Bloodshy & Avant, who created the aforementioned example of pop genius, Britney Spears’s Toxic. Amanda Bergman is a singer-songwriter who performs as Idiot Wind (and is, incidentally, the ex-wife of the Tallest Man on Earth). Then there’s Gustav Ejstes, the singer-guitarist from psych band Dungen, and Nils Törnqvist and Pontus’s brother, Petter Winnberg, from Swedish alt-pop group Little Majorette.” Quite a mix, right?
While our original intention was to feature the new video of their latest single, the lo-fi indie-chill’ed “You Don’t Have To Call Me“, we felt “Kelly“, the third track from”Sky City” was more deserving of a re-feature. Just like the other songs on this eclectically rich album, “Kelly” is intelligently layered and instantly transports you to the glorious 80s soft rock tunes, reminiscent of the likes of Fleetwood Mac, Chris Rea and Dire Straits, filtered, refined and freshly served in an enigmatic music video for the new social media generation. It’s a very likable track and we hope, you’ll agree too!
P.S: It’s worth knowing that Amason’s Sky City won the Grammis, (the Swedish equivalent of the Grammy Awards) for the 2016 Album of the Year. Amason was also nominated for Artist of the Year, Pop of the Year, Lyricist of the Year, Composer of the Year and New Artist of the Year. In 2017, Amason’s music video for the cover version of Foreigner‘s ballad “I Want To Know What Love Is” directed by Filip Nilsson was also nominated for the Video of the Year Grammis. We like that track as well so we thought we will add that video too in this post. Savor it!
Amason – Kelly (Song Lyrics)
[Verse 1]
Kelly, Kelly come back to me
So very different this time around
Enemy, enemy, carefully
Not really ready, keep eyes open
[Chorus]
Kelly, what the hell?
Don’t you know there’s a second rush?
Over, up, all around, when you care for me
Barely, come for real
In the second they wait for love
Give it up for the final release
[Verse 2]
Carry me, carry me fast asleep
Bring with me every deep dream, find crying
Never be, never become my mind
There’s one little piece of time, trace down what’s stolen
[Chorus]
Kelly, what the hell?
Don’t you know it’s so late for us?
Cover up all rumours, they’re dead for us
Kelly, one thing else
Don’t you know it’s a waste for us?
Never trust on the final release
[Interlude]
[Chorus]
Kelly, I’m up that hill
Don’t you know there’s a second rush?
What’s the [?] when you care for me
Kelly, one thing else
Don’t you know it’s a waste for us?
Never trust on the final release
