The Devlins, the acclaimed Irish alternative rock band, have been a staple in the music scene since the early ’90s. Known for their evocative lyrics and atmospheric melodic rock soundscapes, they have carved out a niche that resonates deeply with fans worldwide. Their track “Someone to Talk To” from their 1993 album Drift still remains a popular classic, capturing the essence of longing and connection. Another notable track, “Waiting,” featured in the 2002 Six Feet Under soundtrack, showcases their ability to blend haunting melodies with poignant lyrics. One more well liked track “Crossing The River” was featured in the soundtrack of Batman Forever while “World Outside” was featured in the 2004 Mike Nichol’s drama Closer.

After a rather ambiguous hiatus, The Devlins have finally returned with a brand new, long awaited 11-song album entitled “All The Days” that’s set for release on October 4th with the classic lineup of Colin Devlin, Peter Devlin, Mark Murphy and Guy Rickarby. The new album was recorded in Camden Studios in Dublin with Rob Kirwan who has worked with artists like Hozier, PJ Harvey, Local Natives, U2, Depeche Mode, Editors, Soulwax, Brian Eno and Sneaker Pimps, producing all of the tracks.

The title track, “All The Days,” has just been released along with a beautiful music video that promises to reignite the passion of their loyal fanbase. It’s an emotional and uplifting song that deals with time passing, with accepting and letting go. “All The Days” starts with a gentle note gradually building up to a powerful chorus that stays with you long after the song ends. The lyrics, as always, are introspective and thought-provoking, touching on themes of love, loss, and redemption. And of course, there are conversations with angels and the big questions… “Oh angel of mercy, where are you now? Come down from the Heavens, you’re losing the crowd.” The band’s signature sound is evident, but there’s also a freshness that suggests they’ve evolved during their time away.

The accompanying new music video, directed by their close friend Sebastian Lopez and his editor wife Sabrina Mottino is a testament to their collaborative spirit. Sebastian, an amazing director from Buenos Aires and a long-time Devlins collaborator, has truly outdone himself with the video being a treat of abstract visuals and narrative scenery that complements the track’s emotional depth. The video opens with a serene landscape, gradually transitioning to more intense visuals that mirror the song’s crescendo, echoing the emotions expressed in the track. Lopez’s clever use of light and shadow adds a layer of complexity, making the video not just a backdrop but an integral part of the storytelling.

This album also marks a significant milestone for The Devlins, coming after several years of silence. Fans have eagerly awaited new music, and this release does not disappoint. Based on this track and “The Meadow” an exclusive pre-release track which we were lucky enough to listen to, the new album sounds a blend of the old and the new, with vibes that harken back to their earlier work while also exploring new musical territories. It’s clear that the band has taken their time to craft something truly special, and the result is a sound that feels both familiar yet original. This new album is a reminder of why The Devlins have remained relevant for so long, and it promises to be a favorite among both old fans and new listeners.
