Our #throwbackthursday track of the week is the mesmerizing “Hits” by the Tel Aviv based Israeli artist Rotem Or aka Totemo from her 2016 album “Desire Path“
An inventive electronic dream pop of the highest order, the hook is no doubt the oriental Asian instrument touch that immediately elevates it to ‘repeat play’ status. It’s even more memorable when watching the poignantly beautiful music video – because it was the same time Totemo was battling her breast cancer and this video documents her struggles. It’s a sweet track no doubt and watching the sad visuals does add a dose of melancholy to it.
Desire Path released in EP format has just 5 tracks including “Hits”, a warm combination of spacey futuristic beats with detailed, precise and intelligent sound. Her most recent album is “Everything Happens Only Once“, her first 10 track full-length LP that released in March 2019.
Totemo – Hits Lyrics
Hits are for the kids, shift and cry
My shadows are free now to feel the ground
I’ll talk slow, face down
So you might come around
With smaller words to better construct the sound
In my mind
You’re the very essence
Of the present future
Celebrating your indifference
Hits are for the kids
You get crowned and I gear up
Quickly enough, the record dies
Put your war colors on
This is not a countdown
I’m ticking cause I’m ticking
In my mind
You’re the very essence
Of the present future
Celebrating your indifference
This is how I put dark energy to use
I’ll let you take my pulse if you factor yours in too
